Treatment Strategies For Parkinson’s Disease
Suffering from Parkinson’s disease and looking for a better treatment plan? Parkinson’s disease is said to be a rare and hard to cure disease. Signs and symptoms are the key points for various medications. Different types of medications or treatment for Parkinson’s are provided based on the symptoms of the patient. Doctors usually try to control this disease while minimizing any contrary effects.
How to control Parkinson’s
There are many health care centers showing treatment methods for this disease. But, the actual fact is that there is no exact plan of action for this rare Parkinson’s. Doctors prescribe based on the change in bodily functions exhibited by the patients. Thus, treatment methods vary from one doctor to another.
As an overall approach by many doctors, this treatment is divided into neuroprotective and symptomatic therapies. At this time, very few treatments or course of action are available. But, lots of medical research is taking place to find the exact treatment for Parkinson’s disease.
Two ways to cure Parkinson’s:
As said earlier, symptomatic and neuroprotective remedies are presently available. But, these methods cannot be used for all classes of Parkinson’s disease.
Symptomatic method of treatment controls the motor signs of this disease for about 4-6 years. But, after this period, despite any medical attention, there are chances of developing complications like fluctuations, dyskinesias, etc. This mode of treatment can be carried out for patients showing symptoms at an early stage of Parkinson’s. For late stage symptoms, doctors need to follow different strategies.
Neuroprotective therapy slows or blocks or hinders the progression of the disease. This method helps in slowing down the intensity of the disease. Even though this method of treatment is not apt, this helps reverse the progression Parkinson’s. In fact, this treatment has shown long-term consequences of MAO-B inhibitors.
Classification of patient for the treatment methods:
The above said treatment methods are not just like that carried out to any patients. The main classification for these methods is the age factor. Generally for younger patients, doctors prescribe the long-term mode of treatment because their life expectancy is said to be more. But, these patients are said to develop dyskinesias and other motor fluctuations.
On the other hand, for older patients and patients exhibiting cognitive impairments, more concentration is given on symptomatic mode of treatment. This is mainly because their life expectancy is less compared to the younger patients and these patients need to be treatment for some immediate results. Else, these symptoms will be a cause for some other ailments.
For those patients having dyskinesias and motor fluctuations, doctors, try to cure them with proper medications. But if they feel that medications have little or no effects on these medications, then the only way out is by performing a surgery and the best suited surgical option is the Deep Brain Stimulation or DBS that has greatly substituted neuroablative lesion surgeries.
Nonmotor Signs troubling Parkinson’s:
There are even studies and cases that have proved that patients showing nonmotor signs may be equally or more troublesome than patients showing motor symptoms. There are various nonmotor symptoms and doctors have to distinguish these nonmotors signs of this disease for the most appropriate and essential treatment for Parkinson’s disease.
This disease is said to seriously affect the patients’ quality of life. It is said that most of the people consult a general physician for any symptoms of this disease. These physicians are rarely able to get into any conclusions. So, the best way is that if you feel that the physician’s treatment for any symptom is not good and then consult the masters or experts who are well experienced in this field or the experts treating for Parkinson’s disease.
